Sweden strike in the 8th minute
On 28 September 2026 at the Strawberry Arena in Solna, Poland faced their toughest test in Group B4 of the Nations League. Sweden opened the scoring as early as the 8th minute — Nygren finished after a sharp Swedish move before Poland had even settled into the game. A bad start.
Poland tried to respond and before the break they found an equaliser. In the 43rd minute Sebastian Szymanski fired in a precise finish to make it 1:1. Polish supporters dared to hope — level at half-time gave them belief in a positive result.
Ayari and Gyokeres settle it
After the break Sweden went back to work. In the 64th minute Ayari restored the lead at 2:1, ending Poland's hopes. The final blow came from Viktor Gyokeres — the Arsenal striker and one of Europe's most dangerous forwards — who struck in the 72nd minute to make it 3:1. Poland could not find a way back.
Alarm bells ahead of Romania
After two rounds Poland have just one point and sit third in the group. Sweden lead with a perfect six, Bosnia are second on four after beating Romania 4:2. Poland face Romania (zero points) at the PGE Narodowy on 2 October — a match they simply cannot afford to lose. Another dropped result could put them in serious relegation danger.
