Bayern set the early tone
Parc des Princes was ready for a big night — and it got one, just not quite the way PSG fans had imagined. Bayern Munich took the lead as early as the 17th minute through a precise finish from Harry Kane, who punished a defensive error from the hosts. It was a cold shower for Paris.
PSG hit back immediately. In the 24th minute Kvaratskhelia beat Neuer with a driven shot from the right side at the far post — 1-1. The hosts smelled blood. In the 33rd minute Vitinha volleyed home from a Dembele cross to make it 2-1, before Kane equalised again in the 41st. Just before half-time, Desire Doue's long-range effort restored PSG's lead — 3-2 at the break.
Second half — a festival of goals
Bayern came out pressing hard after the interval and shifted shape, but it was PSG who delivered two more blows — in the 56th and 58th minutes — to lead 5-2. The game looked over.
Bayern had no intention of giving up. In the 65th minute they pulled one back, and three minutes later Kane completed his hat-trick to make it 5-4. The last 20 minutes were pure agony for PSG fans. Bayern dominated possession (54%) and put seven shots on target, but Safonov in the PSG goal was unbeatable. The score stayed at 5-4 — a breathtaking first leg.
