Six points on the line

It is hard to imagine a more important match for either side in this Nations League campaign. Poland with one point and Romania with zero face each other in a contest that could define both sides' place in Group B4. The loser could definitively end their promotion dreams and find themselves in serious danger of relegation to League C.

Poland — weaknesses and strengths

Jan Urban has a serious problem to solve. Poland have not won any of their last seven Nations League matches — an alarming run. After the draw with Bosnia and the painful 1:3 loss to Sweden, the team needs not just points but also a confidence boost. The return to Warsaw is a plus — Poland have not lost at the PGE Narodowy since November 2024. Robert Lewandowski is available and could start after coming off the bench in Solna.

Romania under Hagi — a new chapter

Gheorghe Hagi returned as Romania head coach and has started very poorly — two defeats, 3:6 goals. Romania lost to Sweden 1:2 and to Bosnia 2:4. The defence is a major concern — they conceded twice before half-time in both matches. However, Romania do have dangerous attacking players — Birligea from Fiorentina and Olaru from FCSB are capable of scoring at any moment.

Head-to-head record

This will be the 37th meeting between the two nations. The all-time record reads: seven Polish wins, 15 draws and 14 Romanian victories. Poland have won the last three encounters — including 3:0 and 3:1 victories in the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign. Tonight the PGE Narodowy will be the stage for one of these sides to write a new chapter in their Nations League story.
