A Scandinavian derby full of drama

On 24 September the Scandinavian derby in Nations League Group A4 served up five goals and drama from first whistle to last. Norway went ahead as early as the 14th minute through Bobb, and Haaland doubled the lead in the 18th to make it 2:0. Denmark refused to buckle — Damsgaard pulled one back in the 25th minute, and Hojlund equalised in the 60th at 2:2.

It looked as if the match was heading for a draw, but Haaland — as is his habit — had the final word in the 74th minute, converting to make it 3:2. The Manchester City striker brought his club form straight into international football and is in outstanding shape heading into this Nations League campaign.

Group A4 context

Portugal beat Wales 1:0 on the same evening. After Matchday 1, Portugal and Norway lead on three points, while Denmark and Wales have nothing. Portugal are the defending Nations League champions (they won the 2025 finals in Munich), but Norway with Haaland in form could be a serious contender to top the group.
