Four leaders with perfect records

After two matchdays of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League league phase, the League A tables have a clear look — each of the four groups is led by a different side with six points. France (Group A1), Greece (Group A2), Spain (Group A3) and Portugal (Group A4) have won both their matches and are on course for the quarter-finals.

Spain — world champions mean business

The defending World Cup 2026 champions have entered the Nations League in emphatic fashion. Spain beat the Czech Republic and came from behind to beat England 3:2 at Wembley — England led 2:1 but La Roja turned it around late on. A 7:3 goal difference across two matches tells its own story.

France unbeaten and unbothered

France under their new head coach beat Turkey and edged Belgium 1:0 with a Michael Olise goal in the 88th minute. Les Bleus have a 2:0 record — solid and professional, if not spectacular. Turkey sit bottom of Group A1 without a point and with five goals conceded, placing them in immediate relegation danger.

Portugal — defending champions hunting another title

Portugal won the 2025 Nations League Finals in Munich, beating Spain. They are off to a strong start in this edition too — wins over Wales (1:0) and Denmark (2:1) put them top of Group A4 on six points. Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Jr (Ronaldo's son, who made his senior debut) are forming an intriguing attacking partnership.

The shocks — Greece up, England down

The biggest surprise is Greece — six points from beating Serbia and Germany is a genuine sensation. England, meanwhile, are a disappointment — a 2:3 defeat to Spain and just three points from six available is a poor return for a side with quarter-final ambitions.
