Season opener in Radom

The 2026/27 PKO BP Ekstraklasa season kicked off on Friday 24 July in Radom. The first goal of the entire season was scored by Roberto Alves of Radomiak Radom in the 43rd minute. The hosts beat debutants Wieczysta Krakow 2:1 — Jan Grzesik added the second for Radomiak, while Stefan Feiertag replied for Wieczysta, becoming the first player to score for the club in Ekstraklasa history.

In the second Friday fixture, Legia Warsaw won away at Pogon Szczecin 1:0 thanks to a late goal from debutant Zoran Arsenic. Goalkeeper Otto Hindrich kept a clean sheet and had already clocked 201 consecutive minutes without conceding after just one round.

An eventful Saturday

Saturday brought three matches. Jagiellonia Bialystok beat Korona Kielce 1:0 through Prelec. Gornik Zabrze edged fellow promoted side Slask Wroclaw 2:1, with Matsenko and Dimi on target for the hosts and Banaszak pulling one back. Lech Poznan, the defending champions, drew 0:0 with Cracovia — a far more comfortable outcome than last season when Cracovia thrashed them 1:4 at the same venue.

Sunday surprises

Sunday delivered two surprises. Rakow Czestochowa lost at home to Wisla Plock 1:2, with Flis and Rogelj netting for the visitors and Makuch converting a penalty for Rakow. Widzew Lodz drew 2:2 with Motor Lublin in an entertaining game — Fornalczyk and Bergier scored for Widzew, while Bergier senior and N'Diaye replied for Motor.

Wisla Krakow return in style

Wisla Krakow played their first Ekstraklasa match in four years and marked the occasion with a win. In front of a packed Synerise Arena — over 33,000 fans — the White Star beat GKS Katowice 2:1. Bozic scored from the spot and Sanchez added the second, while Bartlewicz pulled one back for GKS. Maciej Kuziemka fired off 6 shots — the most of any player in the round.

Zaglebie Lubin first to lead

Matchday 1 was closed by Monday evening's clash between Zaglebie Lubin and Piast Gliwice. Zaglebie won 2:0 thanks to second-half goals from Jakub Sypek and Marcel Regula, becoming the first leaders of the 2026/27 season. For Piast, it ended a run of 7 consecutive matches in which they had scored against Zaglebie.
