Atletico dominate — Celta defend and strike
The Metropolitano expected a comfortable Atletico win. Simeone set up with Griezmann, Lookman and Sorloth in an attacking formation, and the home side dominated from the first whistle — 56% possession, 10 corners, 17 total shots, zero goals. Celta sat in a deep defensive block and focused entirely on the counter-attack.
Radu was exceptional in the Celta goal, finishing with five saves. Atletico put five shots on target but none found the net. Griezmann and Baena searched for gaps all evening, but Moriba and Mingueza blocked every approach.
One shot, one goal — in the 62nd minute
In the 62nd minute Celta launched a lightning counter-attack. Two passes, one composed finish — 0-1. It was literally their second shot of the entire match and the only one on target. Oblak had no chance. Atletico threw on five substitutes in the minutes that followed, desperately hunting an equaliser.
But Celta dropped even deeper and defended their lead until the final whistle. Zero corners throughout the match, only two shots, yet three points taken from Madrid. One of the biggest upsets of the La Liga round.
