Leeds surprise the Gunners

Leeds United arrived at the Emirates Stadium without any inferiority complex and showed it from the off. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Leeds' top scorer with 10 goals this season, capitalised on an Arsenal defensive error to open the scoring. The promoted side led, Arsenal chased — this was not the script the pundits had predicted.

The Gunners gradually took control. Wirtz levelled before half-time, and Isak converted in the second half to make it 2:1. Leeds refused to give up until the final whistle and created several dangerous chances at 2:1. Arsenal held on, but without conviction.

Top spot surrendered

Despite the win, Man City had already demolished Sunderland 5:3 earlier and taken over at the summit. Arsenal sit second on 15 points, three behind City. Arteta will be satisfied with the result, but the recent form is worrying — the Gunners are not playing with the same assurance as at the start of the season. The clash with Man City in matchday 8 already looks like a title six-pointer.
